Capabilities & Functionality

The M403T has been designed to offer automated, in-service ultrasonic inspection of aero-engine fan blades which is a key component of aircraft safety. The system, which requires minimal operator intervention, calibrates itself using a specialist test piece and uses the calibration information to assess the results of fan blade inspections. Entry of a fan blade serial number leads to the automatic generation of pass or fail results. The M403T fan blade scanner is currently capable of inspecting fan blades from the following engines:

System Features

4 Axis Scanning – The M403T is equipped with 4 automated axes capable of scanning a variety of fan blade geometries without operator intervention. This improves consistency and throughput by minimising operator intervention time.
Auto-Sentencing – All M403T fan blade scanners automatically generate a pass/fail result at the end of a scan. This reduces analysis time and increases throughput.
Bespoke Ultrasonics – Tieval have developed a bespoke ultrasonic pulser-receiver unit that has been specifically designed for the inspection of metallic fan blades.
Bespoke Software – The M403T fan blade scanner is coupled to our bespoke TiView software. TiView has been developed specifically for the automated inspection of metallic fan blades on M403T systems. TiView is routinely updated and upgraded as part of our commitment to progress.
Precision Manufacturing – Each M403T is hand-built with precision-machined components in our UK factory by our team of experts.
Safety as Standard – All linear axes are fitted with electronic limit switches and bump stops as standard. An electrical isolator and multiple emergency stops are also fitted to the system to improve operator safety.

Depending upon the fan blade that is being inspected the system will automatically apply either a 0.5mm x 0.5mm or a 0.35mm x 0.35mm grid as mandated by Rolls Royce & IAE.
